About Austin Redmond

My name is Austin Redmond. I am a market and social researcher working for a market research firm based in Edmonton, Alberta. I have a Bachelor of Arts (with a major in Economics and a minor in Computing Science) and a Bachelor of Science (with a major in Applied Statistics and a minor in Finance) at University of Alberta and MacEwan University respectively. My hobbies include debate, football, research, and data analysis.

For over a decade I have been recognized for my commitment to debate & speech in Alberta. In that time, I was: a coach at Westminster School for 8 years (2013-2021); a tabs director for various Canadian University Society for Intercollegiate Debate tournaments for 3 years (2014-2017); the Northern Alumni Representative on the Alberta Debate and Speech Association Board for 2 years (2015-2017). Currently, I am on the ADSA board as the Edmonton Junior High Debate Representative and have serving in that position for 3 years (2020-present).

During this period I have been part of the tournament staff of (mostly as the tournament or tabs director) or consulted for dozens of qualifiers as well as regional, provincial, and national championships. This includes major tournaments such as: Edmonton JH & SH Debate Regionals (many times), Oxford Cup Qualifier 2016, Alberta Debate Provincials 2017, Youth Canada Tournament for the Deaf 2017, Alberta BP Qualifier 2020, Canadian British Parliamentary Championships 2020, and Sommet des débats 2023.

I have been awarded for my efforts several times. I am a 3-time John Baty Award winner (2016, 2021, 2023) as an adult that made the most outstanding contribution to debate in Alberta. I am 1-time Morris Brause Award winner as an adult that made the most outstanding contribution to speech in Alberta. I have also received District Recognition of Team honours as a Community member by Edmonton Public Schools for my involvement with organizing debate tournaments with the Lillian Osborne Speech and Debate Club.
